Guided walking tour: The Legends of Amsterdam

What secret does a facade with mysterious red stains hide? Why are flowers still laid on a centuries-old grave of the Beguinage every year? And how did the skinny bridge get its name? Amsterdam is a city full of mysteries—some as old as the city itself, others still very much alive.

During this guided walking tour in Amsterdam, our guides will take you to the places where history and legends come together. Discover the story of the master thief Jaco, who gained cult status as 'Robin Hood of Amsterdam'. Learn more about the 'ghost dance' on the Oude Schans. And find out why the Westertoren wears an Imperial crown.

“Not everything is what it seems… Behind the urban legends of Amsterdam, there are often surprising truths. During our city tours of Amsterdam, we will not only tell you the beautiful stories, but also the hidden, historical truths behind them – straight from the real sources.”

Yes, reservations are required. According to the rules of the municipality of Amsterdam, guides are not allowed to gather spontaneous groups on the street. By booking in advance, you ensure yourself a spot and we adhere to the city's policy.

How do I recognize the guide?

Our guide will be at the agreed meeting point on the Magere Brug, 10 minutes before the start of your walking tour. You will recognize the guide by a canvas bag or an umbrella with the Urban Legends City Quest logo on it.

Who are your guides?

Our guides are locals with work experience in iconic museums - such as the Anne Frank House - and in education. They have a passion for urban legends and a keen curiosity for the hidden histories behind these stories. We believe that discovering the city should also be a fun and playful experience. In short, you will not just get a tour, but an engaging interactive experience from a real expert with a passion for stories!

Where does the tour end?

The walking tour ends in the Jordaan area, near the Elandsgracht – a perfect place to continue your journey of discovery through Amsterdam or to dive into a traditional Dutch brown café.

Will the tour be cancelled if it rains?

Yes, rain or shine, we're going out on an adventure! Only in extreme weather conditions (storm or code orange/red) the tour will be cancelled. In that case we will contact you at least one day in advance.
